Thirty graduate from Practical Nursing program
The Center for Career and Community Education, a community collaboration between Cayuga Community College and the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, recently held its 2015 Practical Nursing graduation.
With the word perseverance continually being reinforced throughout the ceremony, 30 new certified practical nurses are now ready to join the medical workforce. Through hard work, dedication and a steadfast commitment to their studies, the graduates were able to celebrate a day that was a distance hope just 11 short months ago.
“Many of us started with no previous medical background and on our first day of our first clinical inspection, we stood timid not knowing what to expect,” said class valedictorian Rachael Cayer. “But now we know we have the ability to walk into a room and take care of someone and make a difference.”
During the ceremony, instructor Elizabeth Hillier congratulated the graduates for their ability to achieve success despite experiencing arduous and laborious obstacles. Hillier expressed her pleasure in teaching the class throughout the past 11 months, and commended her students for “never giving up.”
Also offering welcoming remarks were CiTi’s District Superintendent Christopher Todd and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Mark LaFountain, both of whom noted their admiration for the graduates unwavering determination.
“Every one of you has demonstrated perseverance, which is why you’re here tonight,” LaFountain said before an audience full of proud family members and friends.
The graduates were then presented with their pins and diplomas, which were presented by their instructors. Several students were recognized with special awards, including recognition for National Technical Honor Society members.
