RAP for Young Drivers March 29
The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi) will be hosting their annual Regional Awareness Program (RAP) for Young Drivers on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m.
RAP is an initiative that occurs every year in Oswego County with the goal of educating young people on the dangers of distracted driving. Free to the public, several local agencies attend and present displays and demonstrations. For example, the New York State Police Department brings their “fatal vision goggles” which simulate different levels of intoxication and students then navigate a vehicle through a simulated course.
Other agencies expected to attend this year will be: Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, Oswego City Police Department, Oswego County STOP DWI program and CiTi’s Driver Education Program.
RAP is the area’s largest teen driving program and is annually attended by nearly 300 parents and students. The program is scheduled in the spring to coincide with the prom season and the end of winter when more teens take to the roads.
The event is free and open to teens and their parents. The event will be held at CiTi’s Mexico Campus located at 179 County Route 64 Mexico, NY 13114. Visit the CiTi website at www.CiTiboces.org for more information as plans are finalized for the event.
